BOTOX & Dysport
While for years the facelift was among the only treatments for ailing, sagging and wrinkled skin, today’s client seeks a more elegant solution to aging. BOTOX and Dysport are among the world’s most popular and time-tested injectables for reversing age-related fine lines, wrinkles, creases, furrows and folds that mar the appearance and sabotage one’s self-esteem. These safe, non-invasive compounds work by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that are responsible for our most frequent facial contractions, such as smiling, squinting, frowning or yawning. The result is beautiful, smooth skin that glows with youthful radiance. You can come to our med spa for a unique Refresh MedSpa & Aesthetics BOTOX treatment!

While you may think that BOTOX and Dysport are virtually identical, they each have their own recommended applications and benefits. They are indeed both used to smooth out expression lines and wrinkles on the face, but their composition and behavior warrant use on different areas. BOTOX has been FDA-approved for many years, while Dysport has been widely in use in Europe but was not FDA-approved for use in the United States until 2009. Both treatments are offered by Refresh Med Spa in Refresh MedSpa & Aesthetics , and Dr. Venessa can help you determine which injectable will produce the most beautiful results for you.
Although BOTOX and Dysport are both forms of botulinum toxin type A, the molecular structure and a slightly different formula are the key differences. Dysport contains smaller molecules than BOTOX, providing visible results faster than BOTOX. Because of the smaller molecules, Dysport also spreads over a larger area, which is beneficial in for some facial skin conditions – and not others. Spreading allows Dysport to be used for larger treatment areas, but also means that it cannot be applied precisely to small areas or to facial areas with a thicker muscle. BOTOX is more beneficial in smaller areas or thick muscles as its structure keeps it confined to a smaller area, providing a more precise treatment.
BOTOX is more concentrated than Dysport, meaning that the two compounds are measured differently. For example, fifty units of Dysport will be a different dosage than fifty units of BOTOX. If you have had BOTOX in the past, you will need to increase the number of units with Dysport. However, dilution does not impact the effectiveness of either injectable. You will simply need more Dysport to achieve similar results. Dysport costs less per unit than BOTOX, but as you need more of the product to get results, the total cost is very similar in the two treatments.
Even though the structure and diffusion of the two compounds are different, they are quite similar in application. Both are FDA-approved for use on the face, reducing the appearance of expression lines like crow’s feet and forehead creases. Each of the treatments works by temporarily blocking the nerve impulses controlling the muscles, relaxing the treated area to minimize wrinkles.
Both BOTOX and Dysport have a temporary effect on the treatment area and you will need regular treatments to maintain the results. Usually you will need to return every three to six months for subsequent injections.
Both BOTOX and Dysport rely on carefully formulated strains of botulinum toxin, which works as a nerve block, reducing activity in the tiny muscles that allow us to laugh, frown or make other faces. Once injected, these miniscule muscles remain at rest, reducing wrinkles and softening the entire complexion. Friends and family members may comment that you look well rested after BOTOX or Dysport treatment, and that you look your best in years.
Once you arrive at our office, the practitioner will numb your injection sites with a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. BOTOX or Dysport is then injected into your skin using an ultra fine needle that is virtually free from sensation. Each injection session takes about 10-15 minutes on average. Results are fully realized in approximately 3-5 days.
While the treatment tends to be minimally painful, some patients will appreciate using an ice pack after their injection to sooth the skin and reduce any swelling or redness. It’s important that you don’t touch or pick at your skin in the days and hours following your procedure to give the skin adequate time to heal. You should also rest and avoid vigorous weight lifting or aerobics for the first few days after receiving BOTOX or Dysport.

- Suffers from dynamic wrinkles around the forehead, mouth and eyes
- Desires change but does not wish to undergo a surgical facelift
It’s important to note that BOTOX and Dysport, while remarkably effective, do not provide permanent relief from the signs of aging. Injections should be repeated every 3-4 months to ensure worry-free skin is continuous. Our aestheticians will carefully review your results and monitor your progress at each follow up session. Remember that our practitioners are known for providing among the best BOTOX Refresh MedSpa & Aesthetics has to offer
While these compounds have become increasingly well-known in the past ten years, it’s important to remember that only a team of highly trained and vetted aestheticians will have the skill, education and artistry to accurately inject your skin and ensure a pain-free, seamless outcome that appears natural and spontaneous.
Practitioners without the proper experience and credentials can wreak havoc on your skin, in some cases causing permanent damage. Our nurses and aestheticians are distinguished healthcare providers who have performed thousands of successful Refresh MedSpa & Aesthetics BOTOX and Dysport injections. If you are interested in learning more about BOTOX and Dysport, the first step is to schedule a private consultation with one of our top aestheticians in the comfort of our Addison office suites. Sometimes the aesthetician will suggest other dermal fillers that work in tandem with BOTOX and Dysport to give you more comprehensive, age-defying results. We work with Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptra, Restylane and Kybella to maximize your outcome. In some cases, the combination of fillers may actually be even more effective than a surgical facelift.
The consultation is also a great opportunity to review our vast library of before and after photographs, so that you can anticipate the changes that are possible with your treatment. You can also ask to read patient testimonials.
